Week of 11/28-12/2

Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. We had a great first week back.

The PK 3 group has been very interested in families and the roles we play in families. We have been playing a lot of "family" in the dramatic play area, as well as playing with the baby dolls. We even learned how to change a baby's diaper.

During one of our gatherings we chatted about who is in our family (more conversations about families to come). While we were having this gathering we were informed of a skunk on the playground, so our conversation switched to what we know about skunks. Here are some of their responses:

"Skunks like peanuts, so we could give it peanuts." (EK)

"Skunks are very stinky." (ES)

"I saw a skunk snuggle me, I gave it peanuts and it liked me." (TJ)

"They like going away, and they like leaving us alone. That's what they like to do." (KR)

"They like to eat acorns." (OK)

"They are super dangerous!" (MP)

PK 3 photos from this week:

Doing Cosmic Kids Yoga

Helping the baby change into a new shirt.

Getting the baby ready for a new diaper
Exploring with light and colors

The PK 4 group has been very interested in volcanoes this week. We played the floor is lava, built volcanoes and barricades to stop the lava flow and read some books about volcanoes. We also watched a looping video of volcano eruptions.  Elizabeth shared photos with us of a volcano experience she had. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes. There may be some "lava monsters" in our future.

I asked the preschoolers "how do volcanoes work?"

Here are some of their responses:

"There's a lava monster under that makes it rise....uhh actually Ms. Kaitlyn, so there's like really big rocks that hit the rocks that make it rise." (PB)

"There's a hole in the other side." (EP)

"Because the snow went in it and light a tiny bit of fire and then more fire!"

"It just creates too much lava." (LJ)

"Probably there's a fire in it...probably there's a lava monster, so lava lets the volcano out." (PB)

PK 4 photos from the week:

We love to run at the pump track.

Creating different outfits for the Woodkins dolls

Building and exploring with ramps and cars

All smiles at the pump track.

Pump track fun

Building a wall to block the lava.

We love the pump track for many reasons, but the best part is exploring how we can move our bodies in different ways on different levels of ground.

Making volcano eruptions

Miss Ally let us borrow her balance course this week. We had so much fun building different paths and practicing our balancing.
