Week of 10/31-11/4

 Pk 3 Happenings This Week

This week we made potions in the water table, made cards/drawings for our families, explored our new journals, listened to some fun Halloween songs and played Halloween Bingo with Becca! This group has been very interested in reading and making drawings to take home.

Pk 4 Happenings This Week

We made magic potions in the water table. We also made magic potion recipes with some fun ingredients. We explored with our new journals, we played store and we made some puppet shows! This group has been very interested in pretend play and using their imaginations.

Story

Both classes have really been enjoying the story "Trashy Town." The text is very predictable and repetitive, which makes it very exciting. I invited the children to help me tell the story using felt pieces this week. Most of them know the story better than I do! We had a blast telling the story all together and remembering the different parts.

Repetitive stories are great for children. While we may get bored re-reading a story many times, it builds children's confidence in their literacy development. There is something very powerful about being able to "read" a familiar story.

What is your child's favorite book to read at home?

Create a cozy corner

Last week we talked about strategies for supporting big feelings. One of my suggestions was to build a cozy corner. This can look a variety of different ways. This is what our cozy corner in our classroom looks like:

Do you have a space in your house that you could put a few pillows in? Having a space to retreat to is super important for children.

If you already have a space like this in your house, could you send me a photo of what your cozy space looks like? I will share them out in next week's blog to offer inspiration to our preschool community.

Check out this resource for more information about calm corners.

Parent Conferences

I'm looking forward to connecting with you all for conferences! If you haven't signed up yet, please make sure to do so. I do ask that children not attend their conference. There will be childcare offered at the school during Wednesday and Thursday times 2:30-7:15 pm. If you are unable to attend a conference due to childcare, please feel free to bring your child and we can make it work. These conferences will be about checking in and what's going on in the classroom as well as chatting about some hopes/goals for the year.
