Week of 10/3-10/7

 Week of October 3 - October 7

Walking on the path to look for birds. Drawing our observations as we go!

Student Absence Form:

If your child is going to be out for any particular reason, please be sure to fill out this form. This is helpful for our team when taking attendance. I will have this form linked in each blog post, but it can also be found on the school's website under "quick links" as "report student absence." If you need any help with this please let me know. If you have any troubles with the form you can also email Susan (slaskaris@huusd.org) directly to share about your child's absence.

The snapping turtle crew!

Big Body movement:

We have been doing a lot of big body movement lately! From freeze dancing, building with heavy blocks, running around at the pump track and climbing on everything we possibly can. Did you know that supporting children's large motor movement is also supporting their pre-literacy development? When children build strong core strength along with arm and leg strength, they are creating the foundation for their fine motor development. Without the ability to sit up in a chair (core strength and leg strength) children won't be ready to attend to table tasks. Without whole arm strength, children won't be able to develop appropriate fine motor strength to hold a pencil. Big body movement like this also supports hand eye coordination, which is a very important skill to have in order to learn how to read.

We are all about building a strong healthy foundation here in preschool!

Building Self-Regulation Skills:

We have been learning about ways to help ourselves calm down when we are feeling sad or frustrated. We have been using these fabulous breathing mazes that Liz (our school counselor) has let us borrow for the past two weeks. Everyone has been really gravitating towards these for support. Some friends have even been noticing when others don't feel happy and bring a breathing maze over to help. If you would like a breathing maze to have at home, feel free to print this out to have on hand!

Reminders:

-Please send in a family photo if you haven't already.

-Please make sure your child has extra clothes in their backpack.

-Now that it is getting a little colder out, please make sure to send your child with a pair of outside shoes and inside shoes.
