Week of 10/17-10/21

New interest:

The preschoolers have been asking about the big green tractor that has been living high above the shelves. We finally took it down for them to explore along with some large trains and trash trucks. I have been noticing that much of the play has been about filling up these big vehicles with all the loose parts that they can find in the classroom. I'm curious about who has been more interested in just filling and dumping, and who has been interested in filling and transporting. Have you noticed your child filling empty containers, boxes, etc at home? Do you notice if they are traveling to another space with their filled object or if they are dumping them out? I'd love to hear what you are noticing in your child's play at home.

Parent Questions:

I would love to hear from families what you are curious about in terms of child development. What questions do you have about this stage of development? What support do you need? What do you want more information about? My hope is to highlight different areas of development in this blog each week. I would love to know which ones would be the most supportive at this time. I'm looking forward to hearing from you! (kwimble@huusd.org)

Card making and note making:

The PK 3 crew has been very interested in making pictures/ cards to send home for their families. The PK 4 crew later in the week began to make notes on the window to communicate with the Kindergartners outside. I would encourage families to have an area where children can make notes and cards for others at home (if you don't already). It can be as simple as a small box with paper and crayons.
